DIY Dry Shampoo
You've
probably already heard of dry shampoos and how much easier they make
life. How we ever did without is beyond me. In an attempt to go green
and allow my hair a month of detoxification from commercial products
I've been using homemade shampoos, rinses and an all natural dry shampoo
is a must.
It couldn't be easier to make or to apply. This is a 2-in-1 post, with an option for both light and darker hair colors.
Ingredients:
Light Hair
-4 tbs arrowroot powder
-essential oil (optional)
Dark Hair
-2 tbs arrowroot powder
-2 tbs cocoa powder
-essential oil (optional)
Steps:
1. Take a small mixing bowl and add the arrowroot powder.(For light hair continue to step 3.)
2. Add the cocoa powder.
3. Add a few drops of your choice of essential oil.
4. Mix thoroughly.
5. Store in an airtight container. (An empty, cleaned out spice container works just fine.)
6. Enjoy! ^-^
Tips:
I
chose coconut for my essential oil, the combination of coconut with the
cacao was just heavenly. I can just imagine how great peppermint oil
will be in the winter. I imagine jojoba oil may be a nice combination
with the cacao as well. You could use salt + pepper shakers to store
your dry shampoo but I would recommend an airtight container just to
keep it from absorbing any outside odors. Spice containers are your best
bet.
There
you have it a quick and extremely cheap but most importantly a
completely eco-friendly dry shampoo. It's really helped lessen the
effects of the transition stage from commercial products to more natural
alternatives. Make sure to comment below if you tweaked the recipe or
applied as is, what oils you prefer and how well it worked for your hair
type.
